    Umbrel

    Umbrel

A beautiful personal server OS for Raspberry Pi or any Linux distro

Run your personal server with a Bitcoin and Lightning node in your home, self-host open source apps like Nextcloud and Matrix to break away from big tech, and take full control of your data. For free. All our interactions on the internet today are mediated by a few companies who offer “free” services in exchange for storing our data on their servers to spy on us. Running a personal server fundamentally changes that. You and your family’s photos, videos, files, notes, passwords, everything, have nothing to do with someone else’s computer. They’re a part of your private life, and now they can all be stored by you, in your home, on your Umbrel. The Bitcoin network is made up of thousands of nodes that verify every single transaction in the blockchain. Some of them mine Bitcoin too, but unlike a mining node, running a non-mining node doesn’t require expensive hardware. Achieve unparalleled privacy by connecting your wallet directly to the Bitcoin node on your Umbrel.

    Boot2Docker

    Boot2Docker

Linux distribution made specifically to run Docker containers

Boot2Docker is a lightweight Linux distribution made specifically to run Docker containers. It runs completely from RAM, is a ~45MB download and boots quickly. Boot2Docker is designed and tuned for development. Using it for any kind of production workloads is highly discouraged. Installation should be performed via Docker Toolbox which installs Docker Machine, the Boot2Docker VM, and other necessary tools. Boot2Docker is used via Docker Machine (installed as part of Docker Toolbox) which leverages VirtualBox's VBoxManage to initialise, start, stop and delete the VM right from the command line. Docker Machine auto logs in using the generated SSH key, but if you want to SSH into the machine manually (or you're not using a Docker Machine managed VM), you can do so. Boot2docker uses Tiny Core Linux, which runs from RAM and so does not persist filesystem changes by default.

    NodeOS

    NodeOS

Lightweight operating system using Node.js as userspace

NodeOS is an operating system built entirely in Javascript and managed by npm. Any package in npm is a NodeOS package, that means a selection of more than 400.000 packages. The goal of NodeOS is to provide just enough to let npm provide the rest. Since anyone can contribute to it, anyone can create NodeOS packages. NodeOS is a Node.js based operating system, built-off of the Linux kernel. Core development is being done in layers. There could be some differences to adjust better to each target platform, but the general structure is barebones custom Linux kernel with an initramfs that boots to a Node.js REPL, initramfs Initram environment to mount the users partition & boot the system, and usersfs multi-user environment with the same behaviour of traditional OSes. All the layers are bootable, leading barebones to a raw naked Node.js REPL prompt as PID 1, while initramfs exec actual NodeOS code to isolate user code from the core system.

    GaryOS

    GaryOS

GaryOS is an entire GNU/Linux system in a single bootable file

GaryOS is an entire GNU/Linux system in a single bootable file. It is also a Builder system to create and package Gentoo installations. Builder creates custom root filesystems that GaryOS can load into memory in place of its own. GaryOS can build new or updated versions of itself from within itself. Primary uses: * System rescue and recovery * Anonymous and secure workstation * GNU/Linux learning environment * Installation of Gentoo Unique advantages: * Source-based distributions are more flexible and powerful than binary ones * A single Kernel file is easier to manage and boot than an ISO image * GaryOS is stored on media as a resident of it, not the purpose of it No other GNU/Linux distribution takes the same approach or has the same features as GaryOS.

    FreeBSD GNOME LiveCD

FreeBSD GNOME LiveCD built using the latest development ports

Latest stable version - GNOME 3.26 - working Latest unstable version - GNOME 3.27 - working This project provides live systems built using the latest FreeBSD release and the latest GNOME ports from the FreeBSD GNOME project. Scripts used to build the LiveCDs are also available for downloading. The scripts are largely based on this article: https://wiki.freebsd.org/AndriyGapon/AvgLiveCD Note: This is not a general-purpose LiveCD! I track the development version instead of the stable version. If you want to do things other than previewing the latest (possibly unstable) GNOME release, please download the scripts to make your own LiveCDs. If any bug is found, please download the debug version LiveCD to find the cause and report it to the FreeBSD GNOME project or GNOME bugzilla. Starting from GNOME 3.12, most portability patches are merged upstream, so you can also directly use JHBuild on FreeBSD to check whether an issue is already fixed in the upstream.
